Action Plan Objective:

Establish a collaborative network between local universities and small manufacturing businesses, fostering digital manufacturing skills, and creating new employment opportunities.

Framing the Issue:

Approximately 50% of graduate students leave the state for employment opportunities, both within and outside the country, while an additional 20% struggle to secure work in their field. Only 12% of new jobs are created with federal and private funds in the south region of Mexico, with the average cost per new job being $154,055.50 MXN. Moreover, a significant 70% of the local manufacturing economy operates informally, grappling with challenges in accessing skilled labor.

Action Plan:

Create a partnership that benefits students and small businesses, in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez.

  1. Identifying Partner Universities (Month 1): we will identify and engage with the universities in the city. This step ensures a pool of potential student participants.
  2. Mapping Manufacturing Hosts (Month 2): We will reach out to these potential manufacturing hosts to gauge their interest in participating in the apprentice program.
  3. Forming Partnerships (Month 3): we will facilitate meetings and discussions between the identified universities and manufacturing hosts. These partnerships will outline the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of each party.

Long-term vision:

The program will pilot with five students over five months, supported by government internship stipends. Over the next five years, our vision includes establishing a strong apprenticeship framework, creating a vibrant innovation hub to drive innovation, employment, and socio-economic development. This will position the region as a dynamic center for technological advancement and entrepreneurship, linking Mexico to the Central America innovation ecosystem and facilitating the transition of businesses into the formal economy.
